Waste Management

Dear Kirkland Resident:
The Village of Kirkland provides a comprehensive solid waste program designed to encourage recycling and waste reduction, reduce litter in your neighborhoods, and ensure that waste is disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
Waste Management (WM) looks forward to helping Kirkland stay clean – and green for many years to come!

Billing
WM will bill residents 3 months in advance on a quarterly basis. WM offers convenient autopay and online payments and more – visit www.wm.com/us/en/user/register to sign up for a My WM account. Or download WM’s mobile app which makes managing your account even easier.

Recycling Collection
Recycling will be collected every other week in Kirkland. Residents will receive a 96-gallon recycling cart.

Every-Other-Week Recycling provides the Village of Kirkland:
* Larger, more stable carts, with increased capacity to prevent overfilling recycling containers and blowing litter
* Reduced truck traffic on the streets
* Residents may request a second 96-gallon recycling cart at no additional cost
* Residents with limited space may elect to take a 64-gallon recycling cart

Recycle Right
Great things happen when Village of Kirkland residents use Recycle Right. By Recycling everyday items like those shown below, tons of raw materials, time, energy and money are saved. To learn more visit wm.com/recycleright.
* Please empty and make sure containers are free from food and liquid
* Empty recyclables directly into your cart – don’t bag your recyclables and no loose plastic bags. Instead, reuse or return plastic bags to local retailers
* Recycling will be collected every other week on Tuesday

Refuse
* Each residence has a 96-gallon refuse cart. Additional refuse may be placed in plastic bags or containers with handles no larger than 32 gallons and weigh less than 50 pounds.
* Residents may rent an additional refuse cart for a monthly fee by calling WM Customer Service.

Bulk Items
* One (1) bulk item may be collected weekly. Acceptable bulk items include a chair, small table, mattress. Mattresses and box springs must be placed in large plastic bags for pickup. Bulk items must weigh less than 50 pounds and be reasonably managed by one individual.
* State law prohibits the disposal of appliances (white goods) in landfills. Please call WM to schedule a separate pickup for a service fee.

Home Improvement Construction Debris
* WM will collect up to one (1) cubic yard of debris from small home improvement projects curbside each week.
* Materials must be in containers with handles or securely tied in bundles. Containers cannot exceed 32 gallons or 50 pounds. Bundles should be no more than four (4) feet in length, two (2) feet in diameter, and weigh less than 50 pounds. This includes up to eight (8) rolls of carpeting per week.

Bagster
WM’s Bagster is a great solution when residents have collection needs that exceed their weekly home improvement construction debris curbside collection. Bagster is ideal for small home improvement construction projects. With this easy-to-use solution, residents simply purchase a Bagster bag at a local home improvement store, fill it, and schedule their collection online or by phone. Visit thebagster.com for more information.

Subscription Organics Service
* Residents may subscribe to organics service, which includes the collection of food waste (no meat, bones, or paper products)
* Organics collection occurs during the yard waste season from April 1 – November 30. Residents may subscribe by calling WM Customer Service and renting a 96-gallon cart for a monthly fee.
* Residents subscribing to the Organics service may also place their yard-waste in the 96-gallon cart.

Yard Waste
* Yard waste is collected weekly from April 1 through November 30 on Tuesday
* Yard waste must be placed in biodegradable paper bags or resident-owned containers with handles clearly marked yard waste. Bags and containers must not exceed 32-gallons or 50 pounds each. Yard waste placed in plastic bags will not be collected
