Community Garden

In 2025 the Village of Kirkland started it 1st ever Community Garden located on the northwest corner of S 7th Street and W Hortense Dr. It was such a success that we will be doing it again this year! Planting will start MID-APRIL.  So, if you are interest in participating, or if there is an interest in having a “Garden-Based Learning Workshop” session, please contact Chris Kunkel at 815-766-0316 or cpkunkel13@gmail.com

Our hope is that we will be able to continue to make a difference in many ways for OUR Community and its residents this year.  Please feel free to contact Chris for more details, he welcomes all comments and questions.

Community Garden Mission Statement
Community Garden Donation Needs

OUR MISSION

To bring like-minded people together for the purpose of helping others that are in need by donating to the food pantries of our area first and helping others that would like to learn how to grow their own food.

HOW

Through donation of time, plants, seeds, experience, growing materials and the enjoyment of gardening, teaching, and learning.

INCLUSION

Everyone! There is no need for experience or means. Just the simple goal of growing and sharing the entire garden with anyone and everyone that will benefit from the fruits of the harvest and the knowledge of knowing how.

LEADERSHIP

Experienced gardeners will help layout and grow the garden but our main goal will be to teach anyone willing to learn either just for the knowledge or to grow your own garden at home. ALL volunteers are just as needed and welcomed as people with skills.

NO COST

This is a TRUE Community Garden. No dues or costs will be charged. Wages will not be paid or reimbursements given. Donation of time and materials is all that is needed. Personal use of the plants is ok and welcomed but nothing produced is to be hoarded or sold at any point. Everything inside the fence, that the village was wonderful enough to install, will be for everyone. No ownership can be claimed please.
