A couple of issues have been reported to Village Hall from our Kirkland Public Works Department after our first round of snow that we would like to address.
First, we ask that residents NOT push, shovel or place snow from their residence onto Village streets, especially after they have been cleared. State Law prohibits pushing or shoveling snow into public streets and citations can be issued if this becomes a reoccurring issue.
Secondly, please be aware that the Snow Parking Ban remains in effect until all snow is removed from Village streets. Our Kirkland Public Works Department is typically very efficient with snow removal, but some events may require more time. With the upcoming snow forecasted, it may take Public Works longer to clear roads. We ask that vehicles remain clear until all snow removal activities are completed.
Lastly, we had a couple of residents that decided to throw snowballs at the Kirkland Public Works trucks as they plowed. Unfortunately, these events were not children and actually adults throwing the snowballs. At times, our Kirkland Public Works employees will plow with windows open for better visibility and being struck by a snowball could be very dangerous! Please note that any future occurrences will result in immediate contact with the Kirkland Police Department and charges could result.
Kirkland Public Works often work numerous hours overnight clearing snow each year and their safety is our top concern. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with these matters!
The Village of Kirkland would like to wish you all a Happy New Year!!
